What is World Humanitarian Day ?

 
On August 19, 2003, a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq killed 22 aid workers, 
including the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Iraq, Sergio de Mello.
The Canal Hotel bombing was a huge loss to the United Nations and the humanitarian community,
and marked a turning point in the need to increase protection for humanitarian operations
in Iraq and around the world.

In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to raise public awareness
of humanitarian aid activities around the world and also make them aware of the importance
of international cooperation, encourage them to honor all staff humanitarian aid, United Nations's
staff, as well as associated personnel who have worked in the service of the humanitarian cause. A loving home for every child ...
